Energy + technology = wealth
The wealth of humanity as a whole can be determined by the following: Energy available to us Knowledge to transform the energy into something more useful Everything about humanity effectively remains constant until one of the two variables change. We either discover more of the energy source we already know to use, or we figure out ways to transform the energy. Agriculture Early agriculture The dawn of agriculture marked a pivotal shift in human history, transitioning societies from nomadic hunter-gatherer lifestyles to settled agricultural communities.

Korean healthcare is on the brink of collapse.
Introduction South Korea’s healthcare system is in crisis. A widespread strike by doctors and medical professionals has paralyzed the nation’s hospitals in response to the government’s plan to significantly increase medical school admissions. This conflict, which has been ongoing for months, has reached a critical point. The government proposes increasing medical school admissions by 2,000 students per year, a more than 50% increase from current levels. President Yoon Suk Yeol’s administration announced this plan in February 2024, citing a need for more doctors, especially in rural areas and essential medical fields.

Function names should convey the intent, not the implementation
Every time you call a function or use a library, you’re using an abstraction. Writing in a high-level language instead of machine code is an abstraction. Using React is using an abstraction. Using Pytorch is using an abstraction. Abstractions are everywhere. However, premature abstraction is the root of all evil in software engineering. You can’t introduce abstractions everywhere; no one likes to click through ten different levels of depth just to understand what actually is happening with the data and where it is happening.

Experts can be the worst predictors
A few years later, a graduate student in the then new subject of environmental science explained to me that colour television was a sign of the imminent collapse of our ‘consumer society’. Why? Because, first of all, he said, it served no useful purpose. All the useful functions of television could be performed just as well in monochrome. Adding colour, at several times the cost, was merely ‘conspicuous consumption’. That term had been coined by the economist Thorstein Veblen in 1902, a couple of decades before even monochrome television was invented; it meant wanting new possessions in order to show off to the neighbours.

Correlation is not causation
“Correlation doesn’t imply causation.” It’s true. But it’s also lazy. When we encounter a correlation, our first instinct shouldn’t be to dismiss it. We should ask, “What’s really going on here? What is the real causal relationship?” There are three alternative explanations of correlation: Reverse causation Confounding Selection Reverse Causation Reverse causation is a logical error where someone mistakenly switches the cause and effect in a situation. They incorrectly assume that B causes A, when in reality, A causes B.

Motivation comes from small wins & action produces information
After speaking with many people, almost all successful 0 to 1 stories that I’ve heard from other founders have a variation of the archetypical story similar to the following: Sarah is an aspiring entrepreneur with an idea for a handmade jewelry business. Instead of getting overwhelmed by the big picture - building a website, setting up an LLC, creating a large inventory - Sarah decides to start with a small, actionable step.

Medium-term future of LLM Applications
Hospitals and support centers utilize triage trees to efficiently manage and prioritize cases. Individuals interact with tools in unique ways, developing personal “flows” for their work processes. Booking agents follow a structured sequence of decisions to achieve desired outcomes for clients. These examples illustrate that people operate within distinct “state machines” when using tools to produce results. The concept of AI “Agents” in 2023 aimed to generate these state machines dynamically based on user queries, using task masters and evaluators.

A company can be represented as a tree
Companies can be described as a tree where the root node is the vision and the leaf nodes are the compiled binary (bits) or the operational procedure to produce the output (atoms).
